Another Belgian monument bites the dust.. Van den Berghe Pauvers has announced that they will close shop. Such a damn shame.

My sofa from the...
My sofa from the Ratio-range, produced by Vandenberghe-Pauvers in the early seventies.
The use or pronounciation of endgrain forms a pattern through these oak pieces.
Vandenberghe gained popularity and fame mainly in the twenties and thirties when they were big a big support for the 'social furniture-group', in Ghent/Belgium. They produced good quality pieces for decent price. They also did furniture production for social projects, where they delivered everything for the interior (when Le Corbusier was doing this in France and Bauhaus / Werkbund in Germany).
In the fifties-sixties until now they focused more and more on quality and in-house production and a modern approach.
Where in the fifties they worked with external designers (Jos de mey for instance), from
the seventies up to now they did most of the designs in-house, by the brothers Bob and Dries.
A great loss.
