Just got a quote to have 4 foam cushions redone. Big price jump. Prices keep climbing and getting crazy now. So if you're considering getting foam work done or buying pieces needing work...you've been warned.

Always expensive
Good quality foam is always pricey, but since it is a petroleum-based product it's tied to oil prices. In 2008 when gas was $5 a gallon, I know upholstery shops who were freaking out. Not just that the price of foam had gone through the roof, but that they could not even get any from their suppliers.

Yeah, I'm aware of the relationship with crude oil prices. Crude prices have been amazingly stable the past several years. Now, In one month, my estimate went from $150 to $210....with no comprehensible relationship to oil. Got the same quote from a separate upholsterer. Aside from oil prices, they blamed the holidays coming up. Whatever is going on I feel like I'm being fleeced.

That does sound sketchy
You got the same numbers from two different shops? I've never had a shop not honor a price they gave me. Certainly not after only a month has passed.
I wish I could jack up my prices just because the holidays are upon us.

It's werid LRF, oil prices...
It's werid LRF, oil prices stable, foam prices climb. Pegboard, I trust this guy. In the past his quote has been at least $100 lower than others. Now his price up up to $200 and I can only imagine the other upholsters are at $250-$300.
Moving to an optimistc note. Considering that biodiesels are making headway as a viable alternative to petroleum, is it possible we'll be seeing "bio-foam" or "eco-foam"? I've heard of "green foam", but know nothing about it.

I asked an upholsterer friend of mine
... and he said there has been no recent spike in foam prices. Don't know what would account for the difference in the 2 quotes you got.

pegboard prices have gone ...
pegboard prices have gone up in the last two years. Every time we have to reorder always a price increase, but we use the best foam not the cheap stuff, as our customers want the best. lets blame fedx or UPS
