I recently found this. Looks to be done this way from the factory. Not a home made modern as it has a stamp of 11 under it and the table looks to be factory done. It's wood chips put in patterns on top that must have taken some time to do. Blonde wood and tapered legs. I'd say from the 1970s some where. Might be a Nesting table....but not sure.
The bookmatching
of the pattern means that the blocks and pieces were glued together, probably (given the open spaces between the pieces) in a matrix of resin, and then the panel was sliced into "veneer" leaves of some thickness, either with a bandsaw or on a veneer slicing device. Then, those slabs were cut into rectangles that mated neatly, like floor tiles -- you can see the straight lines of the joints -- glued into a single panel, and the whole thing was sanded. So, yes, I'd say it wasn't a home project.
How big is the top ?
