Hi, yes he is the best...
Hi, yes he is the best furniture designer in Australia so far, Grant and Mary Featherston. Clement meadmore is the one of the best too, but he prefer to have a career in U.S as scupturer.
The shell is made from plywood, rounded, concave-sided, bent-in-the-middle.
I cant believe an original egg chair cant be sold for more than $5000, but local designer chair such as this one can fetch $6000....
Grant and Mary Featherston. ...
Grant and Mary Featherston. the couple are great and i am sorry i did not know about them
very much like Hans Wagner. I have not seen his work here in America I should have checked by Design encyclopedia but at 3 in the morning i could barely type
I have the egg chair and they sell for around 2500 used on ebay and 1500 to redo, so that is 4 grand for a nice redone with ottoman but to buy one new from Fritz hansen in Kvadrat fabric you are looking at around 6 grand, i would love to own one of these chairs not to difficult to redo,
the thing is what can you do...
the thing is what can you do with that money..
6 grand for
local designer chair (eg.featherston, i have some already, but not this one)
or
eames lounge chair

or
make my wife happy (buy a new fridge and 42" LCD TV)
....priceless
Yummy, one for me too please
Count me in as an admirer. I spotted one of these in a late night web clicking frenzy a few months ago and went wild.
A new chair, a new designer that I hadn?t heard of? I was pointing and clicking into the wee hours wearing a silly grin.
Is there a comprehensive book on Featherson?s history and designs? Even the Architonic archive is sparse.
searched australian libraries and this is what I came up with - not much considering his iconic status in Australia

yeah nothing much there...
yeah nothing much there about grant and mary, except for the chair catalogue. The book fetches $350 on ebay, lucky i got it from someone in US. If you need any info of it, Mary Featherston is the best source. Yes, she s still alive, and willing to help with answering any questions.
Cheers
