We're always talking about and showing off the most beautiful and timeless designs from this era but what pieces in your opinion represent the worst from this great period of design?
In my opinion their were a lot of very cheap, tacky and kitschy early 50's American designs like the table lamps with stitching on the edges and quiggly/swirly inlaid motifs.
Somebody
could do us a favor by launching a discussion of "Hollywood Modern" design -- starting in the early 'thirties with set decoration for Astaire-Rogers and Busby Berkeley films (for instance) and moving on to Morris Lapidus et al. I suspect that's where we'll find the origin of this lamp -- and it should be noted that you can have new shades made by someone who specializes in the art and craft (and design ?) of these very items, if you should so desire.
.
Really. Huh.?
That isn't ugly.
Not sure where you want this to go.
(and most likely not what you meant?)
It is a new year. Traditionally a time to look forward and seek
past personal struggles and achievements. And learn from them?
Or i'm just not in the mood to look so far back and bitch.
I'm not playin' this game. Bad timing?
