I recently received a CSS unit from my parents. I'm trying to determine the wood veneer on it and I see most say their system is Walnut. My parents are rather certain it is Teak however. Is that possible, and what would the distinction be?

I think Walnut was the default finish
but like other Herman Miller pieces at the time, other standard Herman Miller finishes were available. I have 9 shelves that are lacquered turquoise, so it's clear that other finishes besides Walnut were available.

sometimes hard to tell
That piece reads walnut to me. Teak I always think of as having a tighter grain and being more orangey than honey-gold. That being said, there are always woods that go contrary to the rule.

To me...
The color looks like teak, but walnut is certainly just as plausible.
If you (or someone else) knew the date of your piece and had info on whether the CSS was produced in teak (like some of the Eames pieces), it would be helpful.

I also think that is Walnut...
I also think that is Walnut - Mine is Walnut and looks very very similar. Is hard to tell from an image sometimes though.
