I haven't yet delved into the subtleties (and grossities) of the various pedestal and tulip designs, but noticed this on CL and of course just started wondering -- I won't be going for it because I don't have the time nor space at the moment, but now I'm curious as to how to quickly (is that even possible?) identify any non-knock-off stuff of this style. Just seems like theres so much of it floating around. This set caught my eye because of the obvious rust and age - but knockoffs were around back then too.

So is it obvious what this is?

Looks like...
Burke... judging by the shape of the shells.

Not sure who, but definitely...
Not sure who, but definitely not Knoll. The shape of the round pedestal gives it away. They kind of bulge up about halfway around the disk. Hard to describe, but think of a cymbal...that's what they look like. They should look more like the bell of a french horn.
You can almost always tell the tables if you get a profile shot...the lack of a chamfered edge is a giveaway. Kinda hard to tell with the table here.
And yes, the shells are not shaped like Knoll either. There should be a round center with 6 lock nuts visible in the center of the shell...these have nothing like that.
