You people have obviously driven me off the deep end. I was looking at a paperclip today that is in the shape of a triangle circumscribing a spiral. You push the spiral to slide the paper you wish to clip between the spiral and the triangle. Has anyone seen these before? If it made it to my small town, it has to have been out for quite awhile in the big wide world. I kind of like this clip. It feels good in my hand. It is pleasing and interesting to look at. It holds the papers together well. It is easier to get the papers to side between than a traditional double-U clip. Question: what do the experts think? I know it uses more material than the traditional clip, but it seems to work a bit better. Not everything has to be either a weighty philosophico-aesthetic debate, or a where do I find the part threat. 🙂
I do not know...
anything about the deep end, but I always thought you could swim...anyway, what's better than getting some joy and a modest "ha ha erlebnis" out of a fraction of a cent worth of material and labor. You do not have to think twice, this is a sign of human genius and search for originality. Someone got around the never found "Gem" patent!, so let's drive the experts out of town and enjoy a private moment with this paperclip...life can not get much better than this.
You two guys!...
You remind me of two little boys who have just discovered something wonderful in their adventures!.Its strange that something so simple and for the most part overlooked started its life as an idea in a boardroom somewhere. I myself of course cannot notice in detail anything smaller in size than a mobile phone.Ha.
Ha Ha...
Reminds me off the time i swapped all my dolls (unwanted but forced onto me) for some tadpoles and a toy spear, the latter i threw at my friend Jeffrey and pinned his leg!,he later told his mum and i got my dolls back. I never did think what he wanted my dolls for...Poor Jeffrey.
does the
gem patent for still stands? since this is something from around 1900? i do like the story that because of the first inventor Vaaler, the paperclip became a national symbol of norway during ww2 (the norvegians wore it because they couldn't were any buttons with the norwegian king on it)
can dc wilson post a pic?

Fascinating stuff on the little old paper clip gerrit.be, thanks for posting that, and thanks to dc as usual for stirring this up. Now how about the swizzle stick, could you perfect that, Vivienne, or do we even need to?
My baseball cards, Koen, if I remember right, mint and mostly from the 60's, were kept in numerous shoe boxes in my closet up until a few months after I went off to college and mom cleaned my room. That hurt like a spear in the leg. Remembering it even now makes me yearn for a whiskey sour, hold the squirt.
Swizzlestick?...
Whassat?. Does it need improvement?.I suppose its a stick for swizzling something like drinks, and if it is i dont need any help with that one honey. Maybe we could introduce battery power to it?, my booze gets swizzled enough in my rush to get it from the bottle to the mouth.
Viviennnnnne
One begins to suspect you are actually a teatotaler... noone could be this sozzled all the time and still spell...
dcw, yes, I've seen the clip you mention and I rather like it's look/feel. For some odd reason the 'gem' clip as always felt right-handed to my leftie-ness.
