I live in England (UK) and have recently started collecting MCM furniture. Can anyone recommend any fairs/events etc. in England where I can pick up some new pieces? I've been looking on ebay, but searching for furniture offline is much more fun...

MCM Furniture
Check our auction site located in London called Luckners (luckners.com). We sell quite a bit of MCM furniture via an ebay like auction format. You can also view it live in our showroom as well. Sorry if this seems like a bit of an advert but you did ask!

Sean...no problem
it's actually nice to put a human being behind some of the advertisers to Design Addict.
I've noticed time and time again that when I click on one of those sponsors on the right, if they're not from the US, they're more likely to withhold pricing and say "POA".
Call me paranoid, but i don't like this practice. I want to be sure that the price quoted to me is the same price quoted to anyone else....how to easily achieve this? By proudly showing the price.
In my view, the practice of doing the "POA" thing is an underhanding method of jacking of profits and giving the impression that the good are so exclusive and high priced, which turns me off, to be quite honest.

Try The Modern Warehouse
They have some really nice stuff and were very helpful with my inquiries. They also have monthly open houses held in the evening.
Makes me wish I lived in the UK.

I run a website called RetroSixty - The fairs are ok but your never bag a bargain! Worth trying local/national antique fairs too as for every 1000 items you might find something great. Good luck and happy hunting.

Did you guys see the series...
Did you guys see the series on Discovery (real time I think), Making money from antiques? It was all about becoming a dealer in twentieth century antiques, they visited a fair in Dulwich and Olympia, looked like a nice day out, spent an afternoon at a Christies sale also, they had some awesome gear, you can browse their catalogues on line
I live in Liverpool and theres maybe two small shops and thats it 🙁 like most things it seems all the action is in the south east, the internet is a real blessing pretty much all of my small collection has come via the internet one way or another

I don't know
I don't know where you are in the UK......
but many towns have retro shops
There are 2 in Brighton, 2 in the Hastings area, both on the south coast
A great one in Nottingham, another in Reading, not to mention several London ones
They mostly all have websites, so you could surf, and then view.
If you'd like a comprehensive list I'd be happy to put one together for you
Robert

Check our the links section...
Check out the links section at the top of this site too! Most of the best dealers in the UK have a listing in the vintage dealer section.

The big fairs like Newark,...
The big fairs like Newark, Swinderby and Ardingly still throw up the odd interesting thing. Usually a fair sprinkling of Modern stuff at Kempton Park (twice a month)as well. Even car boot sales - I saw something genuinely astonishing come up at a London boot sale a couple of weeks ago, for peanuts (alas I didn't get to it first....)

Thanks...
...for all the replies. I live in York, and as far as I know there are very few retro shops nearby. Definitely going to check out some of the recommended fairs and websites.
p.s. I also find it incredibly annoying when dealers put POA on their sites. Won't buy anything off their sites as a matter of principle.

18000 sq foot shop of genuine Danish furniture in Nottingham
Well it had to happen and this WILL sound like an advert
Nick is right that trawlling fairs will bring you 1 good amongst hundreds of tat and that Midcentury Modern is a good show but still down south.
Now we have been based in Nottingham, Derby Road since 1991 and have 18.000 sq foot showroom with Genuine Danish furniture classics.
So york is only 2 hours down the M1 to junction 26 and that will take you to our store.
What we have to offer you is that WE have travlled thousands of sales fairs etc to get the best and through our 26years experience gleaned and restored them so you get the best looking furniture.
Simon
