Hi all
I really like the Tony Paul items I see from time to time. Does anyone know anything about this man? His complete or incomplete bio? I have searched the web, looked for books, and came up empty. Did he design for Raymor or was he on his own? Does anyone know if his designs show up in Interiors, the magazine, or any furniture catalogs? Any info is welcome. Thanks

Hi
I am an avid furniture collector, restorer, and by profession, a machinist. I love fine metal work. Tony had some really boss stuff. I have some side tables that are believed to be TP and recently a candle sconce. I look for signatures, and such, but never, ever find anything. Email donsof at the yahoo if you want to chat private. Thanks for any info, and esp if you can tell how the furniture was marketed, and if it shows up in vintage catalogs, or home magazines.

Hi
I have loaded a few pics of furniture and acc. that sometimes get attribution to Tony Paul. If these are right or wrong, it would be good to know! Did he ever do chairs, lamps, sofas? Or just a few tables?

ALL HAIL TONY PAUL!
thanks for the great pics. i had a pair of the telescoping side tables with white base and white formica top. they were well proportioned and great design, made for a budget concious modernists. they were marked with a sticker which read "thinline by tony paul, santa ana california". somewhat whimsical and light in feeling, usually incorporating metal and wood. i believe he was part of the california pacifica design movement.
LORI 319 please tell us more about your grandpa, and don't forget to hug and kiss him for us!

OMG
My Gramps is gonna flip out (in a good way) seeing what u guys are saying about him!! He truly had no idea any of his stuff wsa being auctioned in the "net" at all. I found some things on the net by chance around this time last year! He got so excited!! We even started talking about some reproductions!! I am going to see him on Tuesday, so we'll talk then. My son has made the wonderful suggestion about starting a web site for Gramps .. we'll get his input. To answer some of your questions .. this is from what I remember seeing when growing up and listening to the "adults" A lot of things he designed were manufactured through whomever not always attributed to him. In the '60s, '70s and '80s he spent a LOT of time in Spain and Italy. I KNOW that he did a lot of lamp designing ... As far as the California thing, I'm not sure about that. I will show him these posts so he can answer your questions. Hope I was of some help ..

Hi all
There is a thin line table in the pictures, and there were variations of the small sputnik type table legs. Usually I see the larger birch topped, 3 legged tables, With Paul attribution. I don't know about his manufacturers, but you should definately get his story on things he designed. I would think you could write a book and document designs he definately did. I just love the light little tables with the birch ball tips on the feet. That stuff is very Grossman like, and he should take his credit instead of letting someone else get it. If anyone else has Paul pictures, post them or email me, and I will post them.
Don

Some answers
To answer some of your questions ... Yes, he did lamps, tables, chairs, ceramics, of which I have a mirror with a ceramic frame which was manufactured by Alfaraz. He won 2 awards from MOMA in the '50s. We were trying to get a lot of info out of him in a short time and he wasn't feeling well, but he was forthcoming. We are putting up a web site, which should be up in a few months. If I can be of any more help, please let me know

Thats great he was interested in talking. I have come to believe he is a genius!
The people who build this website should include a bio of Tony in the index of designers. Any comments from the moderators?
