Am I missing something?
MadHaus,
Congratulations on your purchase.
Upon reading your initial posting I thought it said that it was for sale for $100.00 and you offered $250.00. Am I missing something? Why pay more than the asking price?
Several years ago (about eight) my mother found the exact same item as yours (with bad leathers) at a garage sale for $25.00 and called me to rely the find. I immediately went to that location and offered the seller $20.00. He said yes and I sold it the same day for $750.00 (97% GPM).
For "me" it is always just business. Buy for the least and sell for the most.
Once again congratulations on your new chair.

well see...
well because its craigslist
If i didnt throw such a huge number at them, i would have never gotten it.
she said that she had over 27 emails about it, and everyone was just "interested" in it. No one offered money immediately.
What i did was show her the cash first and present the 250 in the title of the email so i was her first pick. And it worked!
theres no way it would have sold at 100, she would have caught on and the battle between people would have grew, and the price would have grown.
me=Happiest Mid Century Enthusiast ever (:

Niceguy^
also the leather really isn't bad at all, in-fact many collectors look for leather like this model has, the seat is in great shape, the only bad leather is the ottoman.
And for the whole selling thing...I dont do much of that cause im not a dealer, just an Enthusiast, but I might actually sell my Newer Eames Lounge chair and make some of my money back, and just keep this one as my prized possession

wow that post was...
something else!
Does anyone Know of people that repair these in or around Boston Mass. U.S.
Cause if im going to keep her she will need a few new things, and the ottomans leather will need to be fixed.

Consider yourself one of the luckiest people on earth but watch your back because a lot of people in this forum are secretly hating on you, including myself:)
I was just talking about this chair in a post a few days ago. Maybe I send good vibes your way by accident...dang it!!!!!

That makes sense
MadHaus,
That makes perfect sense. My definition of good deal is when both parties are satisfied. By this standard you got a good deal. Enjoy your chair.

Being hated
The only time ill let being hated be a good thing.
(: thanks guys
This should be some more motivation to really search CL when you got some time to do it... also heres a good secret: downloading the newest safari browser and using this tool I discovered called,Craigslist Image Prefecture .
What this does is shows the CL image before you click on it, so you can scroll through hundreds of pics and find the gems!
try it out, it really helps, I have found many finds titled cool chair, funky, even ugly that have been some of the best finds yet and would have never clicked on them without seeing that pic.

Great find!
Out of...
Great find!
Out of curiosity, what was the description of the chair in the craigslist ad? Did the seller even know that it was an Eames chair or even made by Herman Miller?

the description ...
under: General (not furniture)
It was titled: Old Black Leather Chair
the Description said nothing of it being Eames and they didnt even spend the time to look up Herman Miller. Even though it is still labeled, on the bottom.
The add said exactly this: "was going to put this in the kids room, but its slightly to small of a room for this long of a chair, this old leather thing needs to go!"
a simple sorry dad after it aswell.
when picking up the chair, I did notice her laptop open to ebay, and she was looking at them online... Im pretty sure later that day she new how much they where truly valued at... I even think she knew when I got there, but moving out of her house was her priority not selling a chair, so the Eames had to go!
She did ask my on the way out what the secret was and why everyone wanted it, and I just said cause its cool (: -hope thats not wrong of me.
I also hope it stays in my life for a lifetime too, maybe it will see 100 years!

Sounds like you came really close to not getting it. She was even looking at them on Ebay when you walked in? Geez.

Wow-you dodged a bullet!!
I had the same thing happen on a group of (6)Eames shell/ Eiffel base chairs which the guy advertised on CL for $50.00!I emailed that I was on my way with the cash,he gave me the address, and in the interim,he received a dozen emails offering much more for them.He had second thoughts about even selling any of them by the time I arrived. After much bellyaching,I managed to pry two of them away for the $50 bucks. Not bad,but not like the deal it was.And to think,he told me he was thinking of leaving them on the curbside the day before!

awe man!
The more I read about your situation with this awesome find, the more I think about exactly how it all went down....
Madhaus: Dang! Ma'am I'm the guy that offered you 250 bucks for your leather chair ahhh! ah! eh!
Little ole lady behind a computer: I guess I'll take $250 for this ole ugly chair. Who designed it?
("Ding ding, you've got mail ding you've ding ding ding you've got ding ding mail ding mail ding" is heard in the background)
Madhaus (ignoring the question): Uhhh it's a cool chair.
("Ding ding, you've got mail ding you've ding ding ding you've got ding ding mail ding mail ding" is heard in the background)
Little ole sweet lady: But why have I gotten 768 emails in my inbox in 3 minutes?
Madhaus: Uhhh ma'am, you probably have a virus.
Little ole sweet lady: But I manage the most intricate websites in the world. Seven of them actually. It ain't no virus.
Maudhaus: Ma'am you don't know what you're talking about. Now give me my cool chair and I'll be on my way. Here's 250 bucks.
Little ole sweet lady: But I'm making cookies. Stay awhile, eat some.
Madhaus: I really have to go. Uhhh my uhhh brother is sick and uhhh I...have to...take my dog to the airport. I mean my dad to the airport.
Little ole sweet lady: This guy in an email wants to pay 400 bucks for the chair.
Madhaus: Ma'am, he's probably insane. Crazy he is. Don't listen to him.
(Bam, the door slams)
