Beauty..
..is whatever makes meaning. (And of course anything is even better when it is formed of biomorphic concrete!)
Thank you for that great narrative Mark. I had no idea. Actually, to be honest, those were a my exact same thoughts when I saw it.
Have you ever written prank art reviews? I am sure your writing would be more creative than the work you were writing about. Just a thought.
Spring Break!

Pretentious
art criticism can be such a bore. At its worst, I suppose its only justification can be to make the reader curious to see the work for himself . . .
Let's draft Mark to the position. Here ? The Village Voice ? Vogue ? Gentleman's Pantaloon Weekly ?

Yes SDR
Gentleman's Pantaloon Weekly would be the perfect venue for Mark's blazed rants.
Mark's self-inflicted narrative about his new sculpture is right up there with his masterful bird drawings, if you ask me.
It makes me wonder what Mark is REALLY thinking half the time, underneath all of that positivity. Don't get me wrong, Mark is as real as it gets. But we see only the tip of the Mark iceberg, I'm sure.
We see glimpses- but then we get lightening-quick edits.
Kind of like that mirror that covered up all of those weird birds doing weird things, huh...

well thanks waffle...
I would rather share a drink with Mark than myself too.
But honestly, I think you missed the point of my attempt at good natured ribbing. Mark knows I am a fan.

and
my response required more subtlety. I'd rather have a drink with either one of you, frankly. Too late though, I already soloed.

well then order up
its okay waffle, thank you (for real this time).
I try to write like I talk. But in print, the *attempted* humorous TONE often gets lost and translates to mere cynicism. Reading what I wrote again, I can easily see how it sounded mean-spirited rather than funny.
Lack of proper tone (and lack of editing) -- sent my comment sideways.
I was very sincere when I said Mark's bird drawings were masterful.
And I was just trying to get Mark to write more of his weird ramblings about stuff, cause we all love em!
Funny, I hadn't even had a drink yet... I will be sure to get blazed before I write next time.

Eameshead
I definitely know what you are talking about. On a different thread, I tried to be funny and it was met with derision and name calling. The written word does not always translate in to one's true meaning.
Mark, Any new developments with your musical muses?

AllthingsStig...
Yeah.
In your case especially, I would blame Ray Eames.
Just kidding. Well, not really...

Hi.
The girls are still planted in the foyer, and have been quite low maintenance so far. My thoughts are to go to the local craft store and purchase some large fake houseflies, and glue a few here and there. I've also considered having dinner guests draw on them in a washable chalk.
why not?
Aunt Mark
ps I like my pants today. They used to belong to SDR, I think?
Bye.

Ooo! LOVE the idea
of chalk on the ladies! You can get a bucket of sidewalk chalk in a bajillion (or 12) colors in the craft store when you're picking up the flies.
(Did they sit on that Schultz lounge when you weren't looking or was it always that way?)

The flies remind me..
Back in the late 60's, right after the summer of love, some blazed hippy painted the curved tunnel openings on Highway 101 that go from San Francisco to Marin County to look like two rainbows.
It was just graffiti, but it was popular, so it stuck. The city eventually took over the re painting of the rainbows every few years.
Then in around 2009, someone painted several large black ants-- right on the rainbows. I thought they looked great, but the city painted them out.
I love the flies idea. Or maybe you could dab honey on them and "draw" some of your own ants?
I guess you would have to move the ladies outside for that though.

So glad to
hear those ideas -- just the sort of fun these musical ladies could provide, for years to come. And just begging for an ongoing series of snappies ?
Adore ! And give Ray her due . . .
How come my new computer took away autofill on my signature ?
