This ebay listing attributes this lamp to Gerald Thurston. Please someone tell me it's not so. This lamp is hideous!

I could be wrong
Rockland, aesthetic judgements are usually made instinctively, but consequently they can be wrong--so, I'd love to see pics of your home and hear reasons from anyone why this is actually a good design. I could be like the man seeing Picasso and saying, "Bah! My kid could paint this!" Disabuse me sometime. : )
But did Thurston really design that lamp (above)?
I love Gerald Thurston too! My favorite lamp is designed by him. His name is to me synonymous with clean, beautiful, essentialized design. Which is why I am surprised to see that Dairy Queen lamp above attributed to him. Did he design it? If so, no, I don't really think Gerald Thurston sucks--but I do think the lamp above would be a lapse in his design judgement.
I don't care this this...
I don't care this this particular design either but you can't isolate one design and ignore someone's entire body of work and say that they "suck" based on the one design that you don't like. Again I don't like this design either but some of his other ones are amazing and the question is are you familiar with all of his other designs or is this the first one of his you've seen?
Well...
I do really think the first lamp sucks (though I'm open to arguments for why it's good design). My point was that Thurston's designs are so good that I just can't believe the first lamp above was really designed by him.
However, I've been looking at some design books from the late '60s, and I can see how this lamp could look--well, stylistically consistent with other pieces from the era.
