Hello addicts,
A few days ago I picked up this funky triangular three-legged table. It looks to be in great shape, and my favourite part is how the corners of the top curve up a bit.
On the underside, there is a stamp "VITTSJOMOBEL Made in Sweden". I searched for this manufacturer but have mostly come up empty. Has anyone seen such a table or know anything about it (Is it teak? When could it have been made?)
Thank you for any and all info!
C

if I'm not mistaken,
this was furniture produced by Luxus, wich did mostly lighting and mirrors.

And I think bj is right....
And I think bj is right. Luxus Vittsjö is often seen in conjunction with Uno and Östen Kristiansson as designers. And here is another piece with almost the same label and Östen Kristiansson's name as designer. Which definitely connects the dots more closely. And it does put a name on the table of a potential designer for the piece.

Thank you bj and leif!...
Thank you bj and leif!
This for me is one of the best and funnest parts of collecting stuff: learning about where it came from and who might have made it...
Would either one of you happen to have a feel as to when this table might have been made? Is it teak?
Thanks again!
C

it is teak, yes.
I would assume this was made at the end of the fifties.
Luxus is a wonderfull brand, wich produced great little objects.

Well,
the plant in Vitsjo was very reknowned: luxus lights were widely spread over sweden, by the seventies (then they produced funky, colorfull, plexy lamps).
Some years ago a young designer bought the building, with some stock, I believe.
Luxus was back on the market, under the management of said designer, with some original designs.
How they are doing now, I don't know..

Luxus still exists in a way,...
Luxus still exists in a way, since 2010 under the ownership of designer Niclas Hoflin, who's also the person behind Ruben Lighting.
If you ask me, the designer has made a mistake by placing the world renown Luxus brand in the shadow of his own Ruben and RUBN brands. I can understand that he foremost bought the old factory to produce his own designs and I can see that the company had probably seen better days, but I don't think he is handling the history of the company with much respect.
Ruben Lighting has since released a few lamps, that borrow heavily from the Luxus-designs of Östen Kristiansson, which are being described as designed by Niclas Hoflin. He even takes credit for some of Östens designs by calling them "re-designed", while all he really did was change some of the materials.
The two worst examples according to me:
Östen Kristiansson's original: http://www.architonic.com/dcsht/floor-lamp-wright/4100980
Hoflin's "Hunter"http://www.architonic.com/pmsht/hunter-ruben-lighting/1157683
The Opus series of pendants is marketed as a "re-design" by Östlin, while it is really just new materials used:

A "Luxus" chair
Östen and his brother split up after some years. This chair is attributed to Östen alone so it is officially only "sort of" a strict Luxus which for me was the two brothers.
They made nice lighting, often using plexiglass and wood in the designs. In general, the lighting designed by Luxus, Ateljé Lycktan and other Swedes are nicer than the ubiquitous Poul Henningsen stuff that was mass produced in Denmark during the same period
