I've been looking for the past hour for a thread I remember seeing about someone who had a Herman Miller upholstered fiberglass chair and how they took the upholstery off and the foam. It had pictures as well with what they did. I just picked up an armchair that needs to either just have all of the upholstery taken off and unfoamed to look nice or reupholstered if possible. Any help would be great.

It was in the last think you have done thread. A guy took the material off and put a cushion on it and it looked pretty good. I am unsure if there are holes in the bottoms of the upholstered shells? But either way they look better without and tend to be worth more un upholstered.
Soy It!
This stuff is magical for getting the glue off! Remove as much foam as you can, douse the chair in a warm place (direct hot sun or crank the heat in your bathroom) let marinate for a few hours, (3-4 sample bottles per chair), and scrape with a copper sponge or pan scraper.

Soy It
The smell isn't too bad, a little like an olive oil salad dressing 🙂
The link has photos of the first chair, the second chair I did went much faster- Outside in 80 desgree weather, heat and time is the key!

hair dryer...
I got kinda bored with the hairdryer after about 10 minutes, but it did help 🙂 I think the best bet would be to get the bathroom as hot as possible and let the chair sit as long as possible. When I did the second one outside I let it sit for several hours in 80 degree heat and it almost wiped off.
The link below is helpful as well!
