I'll pose this question differently...

I recently came upon a bentwood vanity with a sticker underneath reading Thonet Sambo. Can't find anything about it in my research...at all. Anyone help? I've attached a link to photos of the sticker and the vanity...

Any reason to believe that it really is Thonet? Can't find the design in any of the online sources.

This website is selling other Thonets with a similar label. You might contact them, or at least see if their site offers leads.

Thanks, Brent. I saw this as well in my research. Though it doesn't say Sambo, I am intrigued that the format is similar. I wonder if Sambo designates a manufacturing location. I'll keep looking...

Thonet patents
You might also scour the Thonet patents via Google patents. (Link below) I've been able to identify specific chair models that way.

Got a reply from Thonet themselves that the firm has never made anything under the name Sambo. So, no this is not Thonet. Brazen copy of the logo...

That's great detective work. I wonder if the older Thonet label is an entirely different company. As an aside, I wonder if Thonet also has a standing policy to quickly refute that they ever produced a chair with the racially charged named 'Sambo'. 🙂
