And now for something positive 🙂 The image below isn't my work.
Busy making paper textured panels in the vacuum press right now for a job, its amazing how good some heavily crushed thick paper pressed onto ply can look, am trying japanese papers, dried flowers under thin paper and gilding too. Thought I'd see what else is around and found these.
I suspect they will go the way of textured masonite (which has its charms) but some of these gyprock wall panels have nice repeatable patterns and could look good in a home I think.

Looks fantastic!
How would you describe the durability of the panels? You said papers there are made using paper and plywood. Papers doesn't go well with water. It appears your panels are installed in a bathroom? Instant mold, yellowing and odor absorption.

God I'm a terrible communicator, the image isn't mine, its of the gyprock panels available from modular arts, I think they would make great acoustic diffusers too, I don't know about their moisture resistance.
I'm making some wall and cabinet panels in my press made from different papers, some of them are extraordinarily robust, the coarse silk paper is tough as nails, I can rub fingernails and hands all over it and it doesn't mark at all, no glue is bleeding through to the surface at all and it sticks incredibly well with ordinary old pva, they could be painted or sealed afterwards quite easily. I'll also be trying intricately folded brass shim too, will post images if I'm happy with the result.
COOLNESS! I just pulled a test out of the press, I don't have my camera with me but the crushed oxblood coloured card has an incredible crocodile-skin texture, time for some shellac, will post images tommorrow.
Gilded...mmmmmm...gold crocodile skin wall panels, I'd have to listen to Blondie making those.
.
no no the picture isn't mine, the embarrasment, its gyprock from Modular Arts.
The test with the branch underneath broke through the paper, very delicate, will have to snap the branches and flatten them more before pressing or as I'm even more excited about pressing them down with brass foil and polyurethane glue.
Paper has great tensile strength (except when its wet with glue) but won't compound mould easily so I doubt anything like the above image could be executed in paper.
I imagine gyprock moulds like that would computer modelled, made symetrical/repeatable and then be cnc cut.
