I picked up two of these and I have no idea who made them.
The only marking is this pencil 'hyroglifics' on the underside of the seat frame on both chairs. Any help would be great.

I'm no expert
but don't those marks look like Chinese characters? Or japanese or any other language that uses Glyphs.

Yes, I also thought they...
Yes, I also thought they might be Chinese characters they are not on both chairs in the same spot by accident. There are other pencil marks on the chairs as well to mark points of measure. I've never seen anything like it.

The back looks rather bulky..
in comparison to the armrests wich seem borrowed
from familiar designs by Olsen or Juhl.
Could this be a well executed DIY-project? Looking at it
in person, would you say it looks old?
This sort of pencil marks are quite common in small scale
production.

yes I know
what you mean about the back rests VS arms, and the style in particular.
This picture I took after I took them completly apart cleaned out all the joints and reglued them, stripped etc etc. They had at least 50yrs of grunge on them.
The seat area had a spring setup I have never seen before which I highly doubt was home made.
About a year ago I saw a pair of these chairs in a google image search but you think I can find it now.
Will attach a pic of the scrapped springs. There was no saving them. Maybe someone hase seen them on another piece.

This is
the spring mec. Heavy metal springs wrapped in a woven fabric casing. All the fabric was worn through and aside from all the rust several were broken free of the retaining strip.
Also, a before pic that really does no justice to how much work was needed to make them servicable.
