Hi
I've had my eye on this set for a couple months. The dealer is asking a good chunk of change and without more information as to the designer and history, I'm reluctant to add it to my studio.
It comes with the 3 stools and the charming/dainty stool where the host would sit.
Any info will be much appreciated.
Thanks..
I personally
would never buy anything damaged like that, unless its cheap. Not when you can find mint at the same price he's asking or less. Too many perfect examples waiting around every corner. If teak bar stools were some rare oddity, and it was these or nothing for 20 years then maybe. Or they were $50 a chair, giving you plenty of room to invest in proper restoration.
At nearly $400 a chair, I think he's asking way totl prices, for average condition goods. I'd probably save my money for something better cared for, and actually worth that kind of money. A set ready to display as soon as you get home. Not ready for restoration, without the parts to even fix it, at full, or close to full retail already invested. Just my opinion. Not sure what the other guys would think.
I believe
you're right spanky. If that were the case and the bar and back chair were mint, and he were in love with both, I would try to make a deal on those two pieces only, and find the outer stools at another place. The seller probably won't split em up, but you never know. I'd try to get them as cheap as possible, since you still have three stools needed to complete the set.
Isn't that bar made by Dyrlund?
They were quite known for this kind of pieces.
The stool with the backrest I've seen before, it's danish, but I can't identify it as Dyrlund too (although they used such a boomerang shaped construction in other designs), maybe a design by Rosengren Hansen?
