Bought 4 of these a couple of days ago at a Goodwill (see top photo). I thought they looked very Wirkkala and did some research and came across authentic Wirkkala glasses called Mesi (see bottom photo). Both look very similar but with mine the droplets and ridges are more dense while on the Wirkkala glass they're more scattered. I wonder if these are knockoffs? What do you guys think?
"Inspired by" is the appropriate designation.
I have a set of similar vintage glass tumblers with irregular "drippy" vertical ribs that I imagine were Wirkkala-inspired too.
I can also recall using irregularly-ribbed plastic tumblers as a child that I now recognize were probably a further watered-down "homage"-- "inspired by" the glasses that were "inspired by" the Wirkkala. (Copy-cat-ism is what we can thank for all SORTS of design abominations-- what began as a one-of-a-kind Tiffany leaded stained glass panel ends up a painted, molded-plastic wall plaque which reads "God Bless This Mess")
I like the OP's glasses, but like the Wirkkala more.
I have your highball id
Don't know if you still need an id - I was researching the same glasses for myself and got an answer today - and thought I'd share it with you - as someone took a minute to help me out.
They are Durobor - Belgium - Alaska series. 🙂
