Thank you much, leif!
The last lumberjack told me that he could have me a desired thickness teak top, cut/sanded/shipped to me in about a month. I'm ok with that, I guess.

I'm out of my league.
advice anyone?
this is my note this morning.
thanks for being understanding.
please confirm the exact dimensions you want including the roundovers.
do you want us to roundover the edges slightly by hand?
or we can round them over 1/8 or 1/4 inch with a router bit.
and do you want the edges rounded over on all sides or on only one of the wide faces?
please confirm.
thanks,

This is the teak.
3" thick. Perhaps it will look like it belongs in the kitchen, or perhaps it will look like it belongs in the dumpster, or perhaps it will be a masterpiece.

I like end grain...
I like end grain butcher-block, but as a tall and square table I think you will want to adorn it with a meat cleaver, stainless chainlink glove, and piglet.
Onto the roundover: no round over. You want the edges eased the absolute minimum. And they might as well do both sides.

You are too god damn funny.
I've alway's wanted to decorate a tabletop with a meat cleaver and perhaps some pig feet (and a bottle of beer).. Thanks.
Best,
Aunt Mark
ps I shall take your stellar advice as to how to finish the sides.

I'm probably wrong...
but if I can't make it look like an elegant unusual pedestal for a bronze sculpture that I've been eyeballing...than I'll sling it into the kitchen and give it a workout.
why not?

The corners don't all match up on that
butcherblock, which would bug me but if you're ok with it, ok. I also think it's a bit busy, but that's also just me. I like the other teak one farther up the thread.
Have you thought about wenge? I went to an exotic woods place near me to get a top made for a metal base coffee table that I got for a few bucks at an auction (Florence Knoll-y). The guys were just finishing up a wenge countertop for some very lucky person's kitchen. I gasped. Then they told me the price per square foot and I choked. But damn, it was beautiful.
I picked out some lovely jatoba instead. Side note: I sped up the darkening process by setting it outside in the summer sun every day. In just a week it went from that raw pinkish color to a deep burgundy. I lived with it for about a year but ultimately decided that it didn't really go well with my other stuff so I went back and sprang for the wenge. And then I lived happily ever after.

Hi *spanky* darling.
Yep, I know that the pattern will not be symmetrical. Methinks that the table will end up in the kitchen...with a piece of animal art adorning the top. Maybe even a taxidermy'd squirrel.
Best,
Your Aunt Mark
ps I'd bail on the butcherblock, but I've already paid the bill.

.
I see absolutely no reason why I shouldn't have 2 tops made. And so I shall. A table with two functions. Kitchen chopping in the morning, Living room pedestal at night...as needed.
To be continued,
Aunt Mark

Why stop at two?
I'd have gone with travertine.

Indeed. Find yourself a suitably hunky top swapper and you can match tops to pants.
