I repaired this chair, almost 20 years ago.  It was so sweet -- and so comfortable -- that I had to take pictures.  The seating shape reminds me of your rocker.

Thank you.
Can you remember or identify what kind of wood that was?

No, I guess not. It was walnut colored -- but I doubt that was the specie.  I don't know whether it was an American or perhaps an English chair, either.  It was just so . . . sprightly, somehow.  Note how high the arms are -- seemingly more than the usual 9" or so ? It felt just right to the sitter. I wish I'd measured it . . .
The arm support seems well-conceived, to resist side-to-side movement.

Yours in a handsome chair.  I haven't heard the term "swing chair" before.  Is it another term for rocking chair ?
The Windsor (spindle-back) chair with decorated splat, like yours, must occupy a special category of its own.  I wonder what the history is . . .

I'm sorry, Verena --  I know nothing about values of traditional furniture.  I'd check with a site specializing in Windsor chairs, if you can find such a thing . . .

Best wishes.  SDR

It's a Windsor rocker with a comb back.  The panel in the back is a little more unusual for a comb back but they do exist.  One sold recently on ebay so you can check that out if you need an idea of value.  It might help to post your query on forums dedicated to antique furniture.  Though yours may have been purchased in the 50s, it's not a mid-century design.  The originals date back a few centuries and the design originated in the UK.  They've been reproduced for a long, long time and there are lots of old repros around.  I had one long ago that I got from a great aunt who probably got it between 1920-1940.

Do you really think it is that old??
Well, my grandmother used i between approx. 1950 (may be earlier) and 1980, I think.

I don't know how old yours is.  They are still being made, I'm sure.  Maybe it dates to the 50s, maybe earlier.  You should post on a board that is dedicated to antiques and reproductions of antiques.  Most of the people here are knowledgeable about furniture that was designed in the 50s through 70s, not reproduction antiques.  Good luck, I'm sure you'll find more help with this somewhere.
