I'm looking for a chair to be placed in an entrance hall, close to the front door. The chair will be used on occasion only (for tying laces) and doesn't need to be particularly comfortable. It should be a classic MCM chair and can be made of any material. Any suggestions?

Eames DCM
I'd choose the Eames DCM. It doesn't take up much space, it's beautiful and iconic.

Hans Wegner ?
alternatively, one Hans Wegner chair would make an excellent choice too. Pricy things, but in a hallway, you ll only need one.

Butterly stool
It has to be this by Sori Yanagi 🙂 although the cherner chair is a good choice!

my top 3
In no particular order.
1. The Prouve Standard. One of my favorite chairs.
2. Risom side chair.
3. Wegner Valet. Perfect for an entryway!

Wow. All my favorite...
Wow. All my favorite chairs in one post. And a good opportunity to
search for a single chair at auction. I like the stool.
I would hate to tie a shoe on any of them though.
I have a sturdy bench at one entrance and an emeco by the other.
(never hesitate to step on with a muddy boot)
This Wegner is on e-bay now. (set of four)
But another good choice if you found a single...

I would stay away from the Three-legged Wegner. It's a lounge chair, would only make it harder to leave.
I like Whitespikes suggestion of Wegners Valet!
Look into Arne Jaobsen's series for Fritz Hansen...
There are overwhelming number of options, could easily roll this thread into double if not triple digit pages.

picture of the entry
I like whitespikes request of a picture of the entryway...
A hallway entrance could be narrow.
The Emeco works for us because the two bars underneath hold
newspapers heading out for recycling and the back support is flat
and holds draped dog leashes. The hardware on the leashes is heavy
metal so it would ding and scratch wood.

You need to make sure it...
You need to make sure it doesn't look like a leftover dining chair - I once saw a Reitveld Z chair used to do just the job you're asking about and it was absolutely perfect.

whitespike's right
an informed recommendation assumes information. otherwise we're offering solutions to an unknown problem.
what kind of tree would be suitable for my yard? what kind of shoes should i buy? what's the best soap?
the most insightful answer: it depends.

But how about an Eames Time-Life stool. Doesn't just look like a lone dining chair and has a great sculptural quality when not in use.
