My hubby gave me a George Nelson Sunburst clock in multi-color for Xmas. A total surprise! It looks so great in my house; I'm really loving it.
The orange spikes are almost a precise color match to the orange wall in my foyer, which is unbelievable since I certainly never tried to match it! The design is so perfect in our new house that it feels like a long lost cat has returned home.
So I was wrong, Nelson Clocks are worth it, sort of. Truly, is it nicely made, well finished and detailed, and it looks beautiful. I do have to say that it still amazes me that 12 spikes of painted wood screwed onto a metal can containing a $2 electric movement is worth the $350 price tag. But, I have a nice little 'Certificate of Authenticity', I guess that's where the money actually is.
So to those that spanked me for my criticism earlier...I admit it, I was wrong.
I dunno, but along similar lines...
I forget the source of this quote too but, it was a scientist, I think. It's very true...
"No is a far more instructive response than Yes."
I'll take a No any day. And being wrong does seem to drive home a lesson far more thoroughly than being right!
I still think the thing is way over priced, however, so I'm not entirely admitting to being wrong!;-)
I kinda agree with Olive
I know his clocks are really awesome BUT I'm not quite there yet. I can appreciate them but I won't buy one. In a couple years, I'm sure I'll have to retract that statement but as of today, I'm sticking to it.
Congrats on your clock and the fact that it matches your foyer. It's fun to watch randomness fall into place so perfectly.
Yeah, but it has all the design style of a military bunker!
Sorry but I don't think it's at all attractive. The cost of that brand and the look of the thing is definite turn off for me. At least the Nelson clock is lovely to look at and the timing accuracy is fine for my needs. Heck, if the movement burns out over time it will be simple to replace it. The patek likely involves a team of Swiss engineers to do a 6-month feasibility study to even approach a repair. Not that this is likely to happen, though, I'll give you that. The thing would likely last through a nuclear attack.
