IN A DESPERATE ATTEMPT I GOOGLED CS ARTE ITALY AFTER I FOUND A CAST BRASS MARBLE ATLAS LAMP ON 1ST DIBS. AFTER A BACK AND FORTH WITH CS ARTE THEY TOLD ME THAT ,YES, THEY MADE THE LAMP AND THE LAMP WAS MADE AROUND 1975 AND THE MODEL WAS CALLED 5932/T.
Hello! This is my first time posting on here , but I have been lurking for a few years now. I have come to learn a lot form you guys. I have a lamp bug and it is only getting worse 🙂
I bought a really cool lamp about 18 months ago. I have searched the internet archives and books, to no avail, in the search of the maker/designer of this lamp. It is quite heavy and someone told me it was make out of cast brass. The base has a biomorph shape. It stands about 67 inches tall. It uses a halogen J-type light bulb. It the base there is a dimmer that is marked Thunsgram. There are no markings or stickers/labels anywhere on it. It might be worth mentioning that I bought this lamp in the USA , but it had a european 220V light bulb. The plug was american.
I spent hours trying to find a lead. I am convinced that this is a high quality lamp and could be very rare and maybe have a somewhat significant monetary value (monetary value is a personal matter/it has a different meaning from person to person). If you have any ideas, thoughts, leads on when, where, by whom this lamp was made please help me.

Agree,
you are searching in the wrong epoch. This is very art nouveau/art deco from the 20's or 30's. It may be Swiss as Thun is a city here. It looks Swiss or French to me.

I really can't imagine
anyone retrofitting an old torchiere to use a J-type halogen lamp. I can't imagine a high-end design manufacturer putting that fugly dimmer control in such an awkward location, either. It's got to be contemporary, IMO.

What if
It originally wasn't a lamp?

Wow what a lamp...
nice find... kind of freeform bio - mostlikely nickel on brass - definately quality - most likely pretty rare. I'd be sending pics also to Rago - Christies - and Sotheby's modern departments to inquire. You might also try DecoDame in Miami. My guess is French or Scandinavian. I'd also check Jacques Adnet - and I know Laurel did several Bio freeform lamps. Good Luck. rbjr

Ah, a candy dish perhaps?
The possibilities are almost endless, do you recognize it, jb?

Thanks
First of all, I would like to say thanks for all your replies so far.
Secondly, I snapped some better pics of it.
The scuffed look much much much better in real life.
I searched all I could online on Jacques Adnet lamps but I could not come close to mine . I spent a whole afternoon looking at Adnet designs just hoping that maybe ....
I believe it was made sometime in the second half of the XX century and here is why: The use of a Halogen J-Type bulb-if I am correct these were not around before the 1960's(I might be wrong) or, to my knowledge, not used in residential lighting.
I am almost 100% positive that it is not a repurposed item. It was surely made to be a lamp/ torchiere/uplighter.
It never crossed my mind it could be Scandinavian, but I will surely look into that.
I always thought it could be French.
I know almost nothing about Swiss lamp design...
The dimmer is Italian but that doesn't really mean much....
I will look more into Laurel freeform lamps for sure.

It could
Looking af the lamp, i think the halogen does not really suit the design, imy biggest problem is the switch. No designer in his or her right mind would place such a switch after coming up with a design such as this. It could have been a candlestick / churchobject or other from of lighting. My guess is still that is is repurposed....
