Søborg has some vintage catalogs on their website: http://www.soeborg-moebler.dk/historiske-kataloger.html
I had a look but have not been able to find your bed, maybe you'll have more luck...
Do you have a picture of the stamp or sticker? That might help date your bed.
Ok. The Danish furniture control sticker means your bed was made after 1959. Judging by the Castle / Drakkar logo, I would say it dates from the first half of the 60s. Søborg changed their logo for a more sober SM at some point in the 60s (their 1966 catalog has the new logo).
If I am not wrong, your bed is neither in the 1958 catalog, neither in the 1966 one. Leif Ericson here has a 1962 Søborg catalog so he might be able to help you...
I am the lucky owner of the only in house design piece of the 1962 catalog and it is a tea cart. Your bed is then either by Borge Mogensen either by Hvidt & Mølgaard. I would say Hvidt & Mølgaard but that's just a guess...
The bed is not in the 1962 catalog as best I can tell.
If I had to guess I would say it is not Børge Mogensen or Peter Hvit & Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen. The stuff they designed stayed did not change a lot from early on. So it is hard to see this bed materializing in their offering. If it did, Hvidt & Mølgaard did add a bit to their Søborg line, which is in the 1962 catalog, so maybe. The Mogensen stuff was very static.
The 1962 catalog also has designs by Vilhelm Wohlert and Kai Lyngfeldt Larsen. I would think it might be one of them. And there is an in house design by Arne Jacobsen, who ran the company (not the famous designer), so it might be an in-house design too.
Well, the bed kind of looks like the Hvidt beds in the 1958 catalog, hence my guess... The Mogensen's beds for Soborg all have a very specific head board and as Leif said, they don't really change from one catalog to another.
Speaking of vintage danish beds, I realized that I have never seen a danish modern bed in a gallery / antique shop and very very rarely in ads or ebay.
How come? Are they rare or it is just that they are hard to sell for some reason (non standard dimensions, etc.)?
After further research Dr , I believe you are on to something. I saw pics of the Hvidt beds you speak of and they are closest I have seen.
This bed frame measures a standard full size, which to me seems "normal" for the period. I am hoping the reason they are not commonly seen is rarity and not problematic...Ha!
Alas, I must part with this beauty , so once I have a better idea of pricing and definite ID. I will be offering her for a new home...
