So who designed the Phoenix mine rescue capsule?  

I thought I'd read
that the design was done by the Chileans themselves. It is pretty incredible to see these men coming to the surface like clockwork. Now, if we could just come to grips with the need to get away from fossil fuel these things wouldn't even happen!

5 seconds spent there will tell you that the capsule was a collaborative design by NASA and the Chilean Navy.
And Olive... I don't understand; what connection are you making between our reliance on fossil fuel and the collapse of the Chilean copper and gold mine?

to want more more more more more more. And they do use both metals for more than jewelry and plumbing you know 😉

Definately a great story why is it being commented here beats me? The last thing I bought from NASA was freeze dried ice cream, Russian Space program (nada)....Design perameters what can we fit in a hole this big that can bring up a man, not many options here! So....

Sometimes
it is nice to talk about something besides Mahogany Association numbers. I'm quite sure that there are at least 33 people today who are quite thrilled with the functionality and design of the capsule.
I swear, sometimes the responses on here are so puzzling to me.
