Smithsonian Magazine (Feb 08) has a brief article on Marcel Breuer with specific focus on his B5 chair. It notes that the Cooper-Hewitt museum recently purchased a vintage example.
I excitedly shoved the article under my wife?s nose and she gave me a wry smile as she sat at the table on a B32 (the cantilevered model with cane and wood seats). She enjoys our furnishings and I know she takes a secret pride when guests initially come inside our ordinary looking ranch home.
I usually only mention my design obsession to kindred sprits; and so, when the uninitiated arrive they don?t know what to look at first. I sometimes think they are just shocked that our sofa and chair(s) (and chairs?) didn?t come as a set. I generally tell them I like to sit a-la-carte.
I am excited that a mainstream publication quotes Don Chadwick and cites his Aeron chair as being ubiquitous. Perhaps now my neighbors won?t think my chair fixation quite so bizarre. Well at least, I am in good company.
