I just moved into an apt with hardwood floors and they're a bit dull looking. Without spending thousands of dollars or hire a professional, what is the best way to get the floors a really shiny, polished look? Is there a particular mopping solution that works really well or a place that I can go to to rent a hardwood floor buffing machine? How would you guys go about doing this? Thanks.

I agree..with some additions..
1. Wax.
2. Some kind of protective finish.
3. A man to do it.
4. A chair an ipod and a long drink.

A chair, an iPod and a drink...
A chair, an iPod and a drink sounds great guys! Thanks for the tips. Any particular brands to look out for?

Froget about liquid waxes; go for a good paste wax (not colored; your dark floor won't look any better with a tinted wax). Johnson's or Butcher's are good brands. Use clean rags and follow directions. A power buffer is a luxury but not a necessity. Unlike urethane, you can do the job in stages so you don't have to clear out the furniture. Re-buff as needed; re-wax annually.
I love my dark brown floor in my old apartment.

1 'plus' 2 or 1 'or' 2 ?
1 'plus' 2 or 1 'or' 2 what do you mean?
Dear SDR:
Sorry but I don't understand, lots of times things are made different from one to other corner of the world.
In this one I think you can't put wax and then (plus) Gloss polyurethane.
If you do this Vivianne: What kind of protective finish would you use after the wax?
