I regret I do not have photos to share, so please bear with me... I have an opportunity to buy what has been billed as a Saarinen tulip dining table. The table is about 5 feet long by about 4 feet wide. No markings. Here's the catch. The top is not a clean oval, it's more rectangular with rounded corners. Any idea if Saarinen ever designed a table top that wasn't round or oval?

Not that I know of. But I...
Not that I know of. But I do know that there are a lot of different tops on Saarinen-LIKE tulip bases, and that people are very fond of calling them Saarinen tables. So beware.

I've never heard of that...
I've never heard of that type of table top on a knoll Saarinen table. Spanky is right, there are an untold number of knock-offs made. I see people with Burke and other lesser tables calling them Saarinen all the time.
On the off chance that maybe something happened to the org table top and what you have is a real knoll base with some weird make do replacement top - the sheer weight of a knoll Saarinen base makes it stand out. I've never seen a knock off that comes close to knoll in it's sheer heft. (they could be out there, but not to my knowledge) I can't even move our Saarinen base by myself, it's got to be close to 90 lbs. all by itself.
