Hi I'm a newbie here..
My grandad has an almost pristine Saarinen tulip table base in his loft. There is no sign of a top (believe me I've turned the place upside down looking - not that it could be hidden away easily). He's no longer with us so I can't ask him where it went... I've never seen it before and I'd certainly remember if we had an item of furniture this good in the family. He did trawl the dump a lot though so he may have picked it up there (he made me a fantastic chopper bike from bits he found on the dump. The man was a god).

Is it possible to get a top made or to buy one sep? I've googled but found no answer.

many thanks in advance

Saarinen tulip table tops
If it is a genuine Knoll base they (Knoll) do sell replacement tops if the base is post 1970s. They can be very snooty about it but if you are persistent the tops are available (but not cheap). As likely as not what you have is a knock off base. I have a 48" rosewood veneer top from a knock off tulip base. If interested in a photo email me, jimcollins@pacbell.net

I've been through this exercise...
You'll find that a new top from Knoll is almost as much as a new (complete) table... I wound up just buying the complete 48" diam table and while I was at it I threw in a small side table for good measure... The Italian laminate (if you get laminate) is buttery smooth and feels great to the touch... It's unlike anything made in the US... The lead time was about 10 weeks...
