Conant Ball like Heywood Wake...
Conant Ball like Heywood Wakefield, its competitor in the Central Massachusetts town of Gardner has various designers working for the firm during its time, Russell Wright just happened to be if not the most but one of the most recognizable one. Although his designs are considered to cater to the mainstream market, his work is more refined and simplified with no extraneous decorations compared to the work of his contemporaries. Russell Wright's "American Modern" line which by the way will be identified on the Conant Ball marking has a very boxy look with softened edges and chunky handles or pulls like a kitchen appliance typical during the late 1930's when his furniture was made.

further, most of the very modern pieces were from the Modern Mates line, a collection of mix and match items, many (if not all?) designed by Leslie Diamond, and which, I believe, was launched in 1947.
the items you've posted look much earlier to me, more like the 1930s, but I'm not positive.

Thank you all very much. All this wonderful information creates more questions.
As you van see by the recent photo that I have attached the Conant Ball pieces with the round pulls do include the American Modern mark suggesting that it is earlier then the Modernmates line. Also, some of the info that I have read implies that if it is marked American Modern it is attributed to Russell Wright. Could these pieces have started out as early RW and then perhaps switched up or upgraded by Leslie Diamond / Conant Ball at a later date?
Thank you
