Hi all. It seems that post 1947 rosewood furniture has been withdrawn from several uk auctions in the last few days. Does anyone know whether rules have actually changed? Many thanks

.
I know that there was a fuss made about Gibson guitars a couple of years ago, and remember reading that Rosewood classical guitars were restricted. I am not aware of any changes to law - maybe it's just one auction house's interpretation of the law? I'd be interested to know how this pans out...

Not aware
of any changes in regs, and puzzled as to why it would be older stuff, as opposed to regulated new stuff?

Down to CITES. I think 70+ lots were withdrawn from the Sworders sale today. When the government approached antique dealers in regard to protected woods, they forgot to speak to post war dealers. Whole thing is ridiculous - rosewood furniture can be sold, but you need to apply for a certificate, obviously at cost. Bit of a mess really. Big article in the trade gazette.

I'll be interested to see how this is regulated
Especially on places like eBay.
Looks like I was lucky at the auctions yesterday then 🙂
