Rosewood tipped legs  

My guess is that the legs are original.
I've seen these leg brackets on cabinets before and believe them to be original to the piece.

I agree that it was not likely part of a wall unit. The flat head screws and lack of discoloration from some other base being removed makes me also agree that these legs are original. Thank you both Leif and HowardMoon for your thoughts.
I figure the holes are for electronics component cords. And who knows what the brackets on the bottom were for.
Still hoping someone might be able to identify the designer.
