Hi Lenox, in a previous post you mentioned you have a Rohde Side board. I just have a few questions..if you don't mind?
1) I was curious how you came up with the value $3300
2) Do you know how many years this piece was in production
3) Are you positive it was designed by G. Rohde
4) Would you agree the blonde finish is more common than Walnut
Thanks Lenox!

Question answered
I inquired from a few dealers with whom this unit was sold through. They reported that theirs sold for 3000 and up. Secondly, I live in California where it seems that all pieces considered mid century or modern design fetch quite high numbers especially on the Westside of Los Angeles. Why? I have no idea, in that, there has been an encounter with a few Rhode fans who have the same unit but in a different market where values are much lower.
From my knowledge this was designed in the 1930's and was part of a set for a California manufacturer Brown Saltman. There were many great overlooked designers from that firm. In terms of rarity I have seen the walnut credenza a few times in other peoples blogs. If you are and have come to be a fan of his work please purchase the book "Gilbert Rohde: Modern Design for Modern Living". Also, understand that these units were designed prior to the Herman Miller line. If this statement is wrong please feel free to correct me community. I have included 1st dibs link to some present values of his work. All of these dealers have their share of history in dealing with his work so their values might better reflect what the asking price may be.
I hope you keep yours and find a way to implement it into your design.
Community provide more feed back and please give a round of applause to Mr. Gilbert Rohde for what he brought to modern furniture design. If there is a Palado table floating around contact me.
Modernism magazine just ran a spread on his design for the month of Jan 2010. Blessings
