It's been a good past month for me on the Jens Risom front. I got my first Risom piece mid July via craigslist, the U430 lounge chair. Then a couple of weeks ago, I won an eBay auction for the 1955 Risom Design catalog. Finally, I just acquired last night one of the holy grails that I have been seeking for the last 18 months; a reasonably-priced U620 bench. A good month indeed.

Nice pieces...
I really like both of those pieces. I'm pretty new to looking at vintage mcm furniture and I'm curious what good prices are for those pieces. Not sure that is something you want to share but just trying to get a feeling for what this type of stuff is going for. I'm looking at a Risom chair at a local shop and trying to judge if the price is good or not ($600 but not sure what the chair model number is)

I got very lucky with the chair as it was only $100 on CL. The guy knew it was a Risom, even noted it as part of the listing, but got it for only $20 and was just looking for a quick turnaround. I washed the covers and replaced the crunchy old foam.
The bench was high three figures with new upholstery and foam included. Fairly good deal for this bench, as most on 1stDibs are priced at a few multiples of that. This bench is much harder to come by than the chair. I only saw one pop up on eBay over the past 16 months; a six footer that went for over 2K.
Four more guys just joined the family.
C140's. Backs are missing. All of the original photos I've seen have had cane backs for this chair (including the famous Playboy photo). However, I've seen quite a few reupholstered ones that had upholstered backs to match the seat. I'm thinking of going this route as well for comfort and simplicity reasons.
I haven't done a detailed inspection of it yet, but I doubt it. All the Risom marks I've seen are stickers, and there certainly aren't any stickers on it.
There is currently a batch of Risom catalogs and inserts for auction on eBay. The seller confirmed that the globe is in the 1967 catalog, with a retail price of $248. The globe is not in my 1955 catalog.
Nice globe!! Congrats!
What did you end up doing with the backs on the armchairs from 3 years ago? I had one of these with an upholstered back and I redid it because the original pink wool (?!) was shot; it was a pain to do. I think replacing sheet cane would be far easier than trying to convert those to upholstered backs. Sheet cane is pretty easy with the right tools, especially when it's just a rectangle.
spanky, I tried a few different ways to upholster the backs with black vinyl. Each attempt looked like a hack job. It wasn't until I saw some photos in a DA post last year that I realized that upholstered back chairs have a notch in the backrest framing to help hide the seams. Now the plan is to use sheet cane for the backs and a light gray Hallingdal for the seats. Believe it or not, these four Risoms have finally slid back near the top of my to-do list, and I hope to start the project in a few weeks.
