I got mine in Highland Park. There were other Knoll pieces in the collection. I definately remember there being a Rapson chair (not rocking) also with the same peach cotton webbing. Perhaps a local upholster was redoing all these chairs? Whatever the case, you did a great job on your chair.
Mine
Mine is the flax on maple, which I thought looked a little bland. When I got it I was going to put on this beautiful nutmeg/caramel color that KNoll offers. Then I put the chair in a different room and wasnt so sure. Now the poor thing is homeless...waiting to see which room I want to put it in permanently.
And I was just teasing about the finish. I'm more partial to original patina...but I understand that sometimes the patina needs to go 🙂

No - it was Highland Park - the lady was selling this stuff for a family. She had an armless as well, so your chair is definitely the one. I just got confused on the location. Thanks for the compliment - it was a lot of work, but I was happy with the result 🙂

Just picked up an old Risom lounge that needs new strapping. Knoll has a strapping kit for $189 and I'm getting quoted $250 labor locally.
Are most people restoring it to the original - i.e. tacking to the back rather than the current wrap around/staple approach. Is it possible to salvage the original tacks?
Thanks so much in advance for any input.

Upholstery tacks usually get dulled a little when pounded in, and some get a little bent, too. You could probably salvage some useable ones, though.
But new tacks are exactly the same as the ones used when these chairs were first made. I don't think reusing the old tacks is something that is essential to maintaining the value of the chair.

I think you kind of need the webbing to be in roll form, not precut pieces. If you stretch it with any kind of tool, you need some extra length to grip so that you can pull it taut. Then clamp, trim, fold over and tack...?
I'm gonna see one of these this weekend. I will report back on my tack findings.

I just brought my chair into the shop and the upholsterer wasn't sure how to execute the staple/wrap around technique. I was going to refer him to reactcreative's facebook deal but I'm looking at the pictures and don't quite get it.
The shop is going to get a recent example as a reference but I was wondering if reactcreative or anyone else could explain how this is done.
