That sounds like a good plan.
Aniline dye is easy and fun to use, by the way. As long as you are putting it on bare wood, that is. I got some powdered stuff and mixed it with water to dye oak a very deep rosewood-like color and it worked quite well though I did have to do a few coats to get a really deep color. I used very dark grain filler first.

Update - JB WELD bad on fiberglas
Well apparently JB Weld can fix a leak in the engine block of a Caterpillar backhoe (according to their packaging) but it cannot hold together a small crack in a fiberglas chair when pressure is applied. The crack re-appeared with moderate pressure. Damn. Anyone want a cracked armshell? Anyone have one that isnt cracked? lol.
