I just bought an early 60's eames lounge and ottoman off Craigslist and its actually in pretty good shape. 7/10. it needs a little love to get there but the grain is really pretty. i know the shock mounts have recently been replaced by a reputable shop but if i were to disassemble and give it a good clean/shine/polish, are there any processes and/or products people with experience can recommend? i have seen a few videos and blogs online but thought id try here before i get into it.
should i oil the shells or cream polish or wax?
what is best to clean and condition the leather. it is original.
paste polish for aluminum? etc
help is appreciated and looking forward to this little project.
thanks
Congrats on your find!!...
Congrats on your find!! Please post pix if possible. Being from the 60's yours is Brazilian Rosewood which needs to be oiled periodically to keep it in good shape. Some people like a little patina on the aluminum but if you want shine, Mother's will be a good choice. As far as leather conditioner, I've seen people with success with Lexol, Leather CPR, and I've tried Guardsmen and Leather Honey with good results. Treasure it!!!
