No, this is great. I'm liking REPROLOVER more and more. Little devil's advocate, he is.
But, it is not a private club. Anyone can join! I personally am getting a kick out of it. And, no, REPRO it is not out of disrespect. I really do enjoy the boldly opposing view.
But, honestly, there are plenty of sites out there more focused on decor - whereas this is specifically made for people who are obsessed not with just the furniture but the rich history of modern design. And being that most of us oare design history buffs you can imagine why we like to give credit where credit is due.
And let this not become a discussion of the legalities behind it. I know that knock-offs are more often than not perfectly legal .... public domain and all that jazz.... the people who tend to want to give credit do not do so out of legal obligation. Moreso out of a self inflicted rule of "ethics."
And REPRO, if you took the...
And REPRO, if you took the time to poke around the rest of the site you'd see. If you go to the events tab and the blog for instance you will see that the info tends to focus on the designers themselves rather than the designs. The blog currently is focused on a documentary of Robin and Lucienne Day for instance.
So it makes sense. If I am a huge Beatles fan, why would I skip out on buying Beatles records for any reason? Only to buy records of those influenced by them. It wouldn't make sense, because why they might share many characteristics they do not share the same undeniable global influence and history. Sure band x has similar three part harmonies and the use of mellotrons and orchestra, but I am more of a fan of the Beatles as songwriters/recording artists than a fan of any one song they made .... and having their music around inspires my own.
I hope this makes sense. And while some of us on here are having a little fun with it, it really does not come from a place of snobbery. Maybe, at least not for me and some.
Reprolover, in all seriousness,
you are mistaken in thinking that the majority of design addicts on this forum are all members of the The Lucky Sperm Club and are sitting around spending their trust funds on 1st dibs.
We are serious hunter-gatherers who have done our homework and slog around to fairs, second hand shops, garage sales, even the stray magic dumpster, constantly searching for bargains of REAL, vintage pieces. I have never bought anything brand new from DWR or Vitra or Modernica in my life. For me, it all about finding something fabulous amongst the ubiquitous crap.
You are being excoriated because you came on this PARTICULAR website spouting the virtues of what we consider cheap knockoffs that, oftentimes, cost more at retail than what we pay for vintage pieces that we have discovered.
Also, your very attitude insults the many people on this forum who MAKE THEIR LIVING buying and selling these labors of love. Would you like it if someone came on one of your professional websites and belittled what you do for a living?
You are cool
you are cool whitespike!!! believe it or not i have a library of books on design and specifically classic furniture design, and i do respect the designers, have great knowledge of their work and their finished pieces and the entire oevre of midcentury work. and actually PODBOY i do own some very authentic watches...i am far from a walmart, canal street shopper. i just wanted to being a different pov. that said, this is my last post on the subject but i will continue enjoying the site.
No, whitespike....
i wasnt messing with your heads. i really did order 4 knockoff tulip chairs for our kitchen table from an ebay seller. they are new, probably from china. hopefully they will serve their purpose -- to sit on while eating, etc., and should still give me the "look" i want without the cost. the chairs sit around the knockoff 48" tulip table and under a huge piet mondrian trafalgar square poster from moma. we've had the table for six years or so -- still in perfect shape and used everyday. would my hasving bought the knoll version made my life any different. i dont think so. but i guess i should add that there is in my home a number of authentic midcentury pieces. i also collect authentic tin toys, but thats another tory.
