You're not crazy, and I think everybody has felt that same pang of remorse you're experiencing. But have patience! As with almost anything, if you're in a hurry, you will always pay more. That chair will come up again, and I doubt very much that it will sell for anything close to it's MSRP the next time around. As a side note, a sale like that truly illustrates what a raging rip off some of these 1st Dibs dealers are. I would bet that a dealer bought that very chair and plans to sell it for treble the profit.
As for modernreproductions, they seem to use stock photos of FH produced PK-31s. That's a bad sign right there. I reccommend that you avoid such merchants. 12 grand is shockingly expensive for that chair, I agree, but that doesn't make 2 grand for a Chinese made clunker a savvy deal, despite what some turkeys might tell you. If you're really sincere about your interest in these designs, then you both want and deserve the best representation. Bad copies just debases the essence of the design and depress the appeal of the real deal. Save your money and hang in there. A good piece will last the better part of forever, and I would bet you will never regret it.
