The other batch of cane that I got from Country Seating was ok. I should have returned the bad hank but I had to get the chair done and didn't have time. I just found this discussion (link below) of bad cane and these people all say to just contact the supplier about it. It seems they will replace it.
Also, I think this is where I heard about a company that has better quality cane---H.H. Perkins. Might be worth investigating, though this other person says that quality in general isn't what it used to be. I can confirm this just by looking at the cane on old chairs! Even when it is dirty and dry and broken, it is obviously more even in width and has fewer blemishes. The cane plants can't be that much different so it must be a quality control thing where the strips are peeled and inspected. Blah.

Just received my new cane...
Just received my new cane from peerless rattan. SO MUCH better than the stuff that came from the Country Seat. Like night and day.
