.
The strips are just about 1/8" wide, quite narrow. I've only uncovered one, so I'm hoping they're all in as good condition as the first.

Black Danish Paper Cord
following up on some earlier threads -- and particularly for Spanky (thank you, btw, for all your insights on the blog roll), i'm in the US and finally got my hands on some Black laced danish paper cord. I'm restoring a set of 8 Moller 71 chairs - all side chairs - and will be doing 6 in the natural and 2 in the black. The black cord is considerably more expensive, so i compromised by doing just 2 (which will become a nice contrast, i think, as the 2 extra/head chairs). and definitely wanted to try the black. Hard to find!
I bought a spool good for about 4-5 chairs, so if anyone is interested in the extra material, just let me know. Also happy to help source larger quantities if anyone is interested. Will post pictures when done -- probably a month ish from now.

Black Cord supplier
No, i sourced from Europe. but discussed with them creating a supply line to the US if there's enough interest. Not sure why the US guys can't get it together and make available. approx double the cost, but primarily b/c of weak dollar. and of course shipping is more expensive, but for a large quantity it wouldn't be that bad. and relative to the cost of the chairs and the labor, it's still fairly reasonable if black is desired, especially if doing a set or more.

Converting old seat to woven seat - Moller 71
Hi, i'm considering restoring 4 moller 71 chairs that i'm told were originally leather seats, and then redone to look like the image attached here. My question is whether anyone can tell what it might have been originally -- and whether formerly a leather seat or given the appearance now -- if it's easy/possible to redo this completely in a traditional danish paper cord (once the current seating is removed). i'm just wondering if once the cane top (that is there now) is exposed, will the chair structure not accommodate the weaving of the danish cord. thanks for any insights.

The seat will accommodate...
The seat will accommodate either paper cord or upholstery. If you can find any nail holes on the inside of the rails, where Danish "L" nails were once installed, that would indicate that it once had paper cord. If you find only staple holes, that would indicate that it had upholstery.
If the chair has nail holes, it at least makes it easier to space out and re-install new nails. But either way, you can put in the nails and weave a paper cord seat, no problem.

About halfway up this thread
are tips on converting to a paper cord seat, including how many nails should be on each rail (crucial!).
DVS, thanks for the info on the black paper cord. I am going to sit tight for now but it's good to know that it can be gotten!

Photos of the Black Danish Paper Cord - Moller 71
Thought i'd share the photos of the finished project. i had a set of 8 to restore, so i did 6 in natural and 2 in black (the cost of black was a bit prohibitive for all and i wasn't certain i'd love them all black, but definitely worth the extra $). And i will definitely do black again. Stunning, in my opinion.

any luck finding suitable flat pleated cord in colors?
Have 6 chairs that need it. Originally in blue. Now tattered and stained. Mrs. thinks she wants Aubergine.

oops, ignore the my last duplicated old post.
I was trying to sign into the sight and accidentally reposted an old post. FWIW, we ended up using a polyester braid from these folks: http://www.ricebraid.com/. Not an exact match for the wool, but looks quite nice
