I had an interesting conversation with an Irish woman today, living here in the states. She says the term "remodeling" is very American? Is that true? What do the europeans think?

'Decorating' usually means just painting and maybe changing a few soft furnishing.
A major job, including buiding work, would probably be referred to as a refurbishment...
