nice faits divers
in belgium they planted trees, so called 'freedom trees' while occupied by the french (napoleon), being occupied by the dutch and by the independency of belgium in 1830. In 1930 in more then 200 towns in belgium they planted another 'freedom tree' to celibrate the 100 years of independency. nowadays stil a lot of these trees are standing. but almost nobody known why, it are plain simple trees that you passes by each day. (i didn't knwon their 'reason for existince' until i visited an exhibition about these trees in the fondation pour l'architecture, their are no signs attached to these trees). freedom as become so obvious for us that we might forget the situation in other countries. (another plantation of trees; a whole forest, happened in Belgium not so long ago to remind us aboutchildabuse)
