I have a 670/671 set that I bought that had already been reupholstered by somebody that didn't know what they were doing. This is the older late 50s-early 60s style with the 2 round clips rather than the 4 rectangular clips. The cushions are down.
The problem is that the leather they used is a thicker pebbled leather rather than the smooth glove leather originally used for these chairs. I think the thickness of the leather has thrown off the measurements, so now the cushions don't fit properly in the shells. They slide in, but they're a real bear to get hooked in. The snaps won't snap and the edges of the cushions aren't flush with the shells, which really destroys the look of this chair.
My question is, would you have these recovered by someone who knows what they're doing, or would you buy a new set from a place like those available from highbrowfurniture.com?

New set
I'd buy a new set, I think Highbrow sells them for about $1400(not including the ottoman). The only drawback is they don't use the same leather and stuffing as your's would of had. You can always give Hume Modern a call, they have a good reputation.

In fact, I did give Hume...
In fact, I did give Hume Modern a call and was very impressed. I will eventually be getting cushions from them. In the meantime, I'll live with them. They're not terrible. It's just the little things like the lack of a snug fit to the shells that really bugs me. :/
Thanks all.

Recovering the eames chair
I have been getting a lot of calls lately about people wanting to recover there eames lounge chairs.
For some reason more and more people are buying vintage chairs and wanting them recovered ,
We use a wide range of leather on the chairs starting with your standard drum dyed leather and very nice pebble or smooth 42 to 60 sq feet for around $225.00 for the hide.
the next is Spinneybeck very nice quality around 350 to 500 for a full hide used by DWR on lots of chairs and last is the Edelman leather the most expensive of all leathers from 400 to 1000 for a full hide and any color you want.
Herman miller uses this on there chairs for a up charge of around 1000
and it is wonderful. they way it is made and dyed. but if you get lucky you can find some nice leathers at your favorite leather store or on ebay.
We charge around $1000.00 to recover the chair plus shipping of around 65.00 we re wrap the down and clean it, always use a new zipper and always reuse the plastic molded perforated pad ( no need to replace unless broken ) cause impossible to find, I have heard you can get pads from some of the stores that sell Herman miller products but i do not know how much they cost,
Chupacavra
....so we won't have to screw around why don't you find out what this complete redo from rosewood to leather cost from Herman Miller. you can buy a new one for around 2600 with ottoman.
I doubt in my humble opion that Herman miller would redo it for this price .
We charge (retroredo.com) $1400.00 for a complete leather redo including ottoman with top grade leather, take 400 off if you supply your own leather.
Alfi Hume charges any where between 600 and 1400 depending on the condition of the Rosewood chair, with it most often needing new shock mounts for around $500.00 for lumbar and back set .
okey dokey
I'll ask my buddy. He did check around and has seen some refurbs and also the H.M. refurb and for him, it was worth it to go to H.M. They are the manufacturer. The end result is two chairs and ottomans that are 'factory original'.
BTW, this comment was in no way meant to detract from your services. I was just passing on an observation.
No Problem **

No problem we want to know what the competition is chargeing so we can compete, It is Hard to compete with Herman Miller as there workman ship is always great!!! I am sure Alfi Hume likes to think his is too, I known my workmanship is good but from what my customers tell me it
takes any where from 4 to 6 months and every thing Hermnan Miller does is very expensive,
Thanks for letting me know that they are redoing the chairs cause i did know they would re fix a back panel , but never a whole chair, As far as recovering I am sure any good monkey can recover the chair. just kidding on that one ,
