Decent well priced reproductions
Hi, i don't know if this site sells the egg chair, but i purchased a reproduction black LTR eames side table from www.lifestylehome.co.uk and the quality was very good considering how much (or i should say how little!) i paid for it.

junk
that chinese made stuff is just flashy junk. materials are crap and they cut corners to turn a quick buck.
back in the fifties, hot rodders would take their cars south of the border for a good tuck n roll job; the caveat was they always brought their own upholstery thread. maybe if you could buy one and totally redo it. still, the base and mechanism is probably lowest quality possible.
you pays your money, you takes your chances.

Way late on this topic...
I just try to go for vintage designer furniture. I am not partial to buying new Herman Miller or Knoll, especially if I can get ahold of an older piece. The older stuff has a story behind it. I can picture the people before me who appreciated the piece as I do now, and that is a part of the attraction I have to it. I see it as art. I see my house as art. If I don't know the whole story then I use my imagination. New furniture just becomes used furniture the minute it's delivered. I am not for replicas generally, but I do admit I have some Eurway "Series 7" knockoffs around my Knoll Partner's Table and a Modernica case study bed. Of course, if I were to run across a vintage bed frame that I loved I would probably buy it.
Just a funny related story. A man recently delivered something to my house and told my wife. "Hey, I love that chair, I see it on ebay all the time." Of course he was looking at a 25 year old Knoll Barcelona Chair, not a $300 chair from China. Does the ebay chair enhance the value of my Barcelona or dilute it? Probably both.
