Hi everyone, I recently acquired a new living room chair and am currently looking for recommendations as to how to reupholster it. Currently the chair is white, and as I have three black cats simply will not hold up in my apartment. So I am turning to you guys for insight and tips.
The chair resembles the one featured in the link below, except that the legs, base, and connecting pieces are wooden as opposed to metal (which is a shame...). These pieces are also much thicker then the ones pictured here.
I am essentially looking for techniques that would make this job as simple as possible, as well as for material recommendations. I am intimidated by the roundness of the chair, and thus don?t really know how to approach this task. I?m assuming that I need to use a rather sturdy or think material (yet hopefully soft) so that It will lend itself to roundness without looking awkward. If you have any experience working with this type of shape, or could lead me in the direction of some useful information it would be greatly appreciated.

exactly, and ask to see pictures of their previous work, specify the type of stitch you want (king, piped etc, I would google for samples images of what you like and take those along). Specify the foam density and how they will do the back of the backrest. There is a horrible sort of undertucked tacked metal strip that some use very poorly that comes out all lumpy. Some upholsterers are more equal than others!
Someone here recently had a disaster with a swan chair, how did that turn out? Ask what warranty they provide too.
LRF is the fabric guy, my favourite is Kvadrats divina 3, though with wood leather might look nice. Perhaps you could contact the best interior designer in your area and ask for a referance.
LRF has a good business in Tulsa
and I know of an excellent reupholsterer in Minneapolis. It depends where you're located.
Most bigger cities have a mid-century reupholstering business...check with your best mid-century furniture antique shops and ask for their recommdendation...that's how I discovered Remnants here in Minneapolis.
