This is a hypothetical situation:
Say I am looking to buy something as an investment.I am going to spend between 1000 and 10,000 on one item. You are my advisor what do you recommend.
please include a link with a photo where possible.
Here is a quick tutorial for people who do not know how to link a photo which is on their computer.... follow these steps....
go to imageshack.us
click the "browse" button
go to the folder on your computer where the image is.
click on the "host it" button
wait.......sometimes its quick,sometimes slow.
scroll down to the box that says "direct link to image"
Highlight the text and cut/copy the text and then paste it into the box here on design addicts that says "associated web link"
Ok I will start then,I think...
Ok I will start then,I think that sottsass/Memphis/80s Italian ceramics are good value for money at the moment and over the next few years their price will increase significantly, therefore I advise myself to buy this Ettore Sottsass Lapis Lazuli tea-pot for 485

good investment
I think for the money...... and people always ask me about a nice vintage eames lounge chair 670 671 from the 1970's what is that worth ?
That is when the best chair were made with the best rosewood , the early ones have somewhat dried out by now. although if you can find an early one with the round clips they are good but my biggest concern is the drying out of the shock mounts .
You should be able to pick up a nice 70's chair in the 2000 range with ottoman and great shape.
For some reason the rosewood was in great shape and very rich for that 10 year period and i have really never seen a bad one from 70 to 80 s
I have seen
a lot of Lounge chairs and I think those chairs in time will bring the most money and are a good investment . others are good but by the early 90's they became just a chair and not bringing that much resale cause the wood changed to oak and cherry. The early 60's chairs, I would stay away from unless they have be reconditioned as the leather and the shock mounts needs a good going over.
Mom always said
She had a knack for smart furniture collecting and always said never buy as an investment something that's still being manufactured new. The price of a new one (regardless of perceptions of quality/vintage) will always constrain the price of vintage pieces. Find something that's truly rare and long out of production, preferably by a dead designer and a defunct manufacturer. But that's just my mom's advice.
.
I think large production run Memphis pieces will continue to drop...also the ageing process is hard on them...also its still a bit too early...But if you like them thats great.I bought a few items in 1981 when it first hit,a friend brought the collecton to Austin Texas...little interest then, less now.
investmment purchases
That could be fun. I would say you could do quite well with 10,000 to spend, but I wouldn't buy just one item, rather diversify, and buy 20 items at 500 each. As long as they are rather rare in today's terms, difficult to produce, ergo difficult to reproduce, are at least somewhat practical, you would do very well in 10 years' time - probably better than most other invenstments. I would say the things shouldn't be too rooted in any genre, as that genre could fall into bad favor, rather interesting in a 2117 sort of way.
Definitely buy it all on Ebay to keep your cost basis to a minimum.
Here is a suggestion (not too terribly anything, but probably not many of them exist):
