Hi,

I've found an ad selling these chairs, they claim to be original Herman Miller's, but I couldn't really find anything regarding the stamp. Are these the real deal?

Also, it says that the chairs are painted. Can I remove this paint or is it something nasty that I won't be able to get off?

Best,

Dan

Feel for the bumps
Underneath of the HM shell chairs there's always a convex bit of lettering and the symbol. Right underneath where your nuts would rest when sitting down. Look for them. The mold looks right and the legs as well. As far as paint goes, you might be able to have them dipped or apply a strong paint thinner and scrape off as much as you can. The rest will need to be sanded off and then the fiberglass treated. Visit chairfag.com for tips. That's a great website for all things Herman Miller shell. Good luck.

real thing
I have seen those- it is a real thing but removing the paint is really tricky and time consuming and you do not ever know the condition of the fibre glass beneath it!
I have tried it with a chair that had been coloured white, still in the process...
Wonder if anyone knows, are these chairs worth something even if they are coloured?
